My Samoan Traditional Tatau

POE ELAMA
Hullo Hisako!

As you have asked a question whether I have a tatau or not, the answer is " YES "and I also like to provide you with the proof of it. I had my Samoan traditional tattoo (tatau) when I was 18 years old, and that photo was taken when I was 28 years of age.

Hi poeelama,
Wow!! You do have Samoan Tatoos! That is beautiful!
How long did it take? Was it painful?
So, do Samoan males normally have the tatoo when they turn to 18?

It's amazing! How big your tattoo is '0'! How much did it cost to tattoo that size? How did they do it? Is there a development in method of having tattoo?

Hi Hisako and ji-eun!

To answer your questions, It took me 5 days to finish off the whole thing. In addition, it is up to a Samoan male of what time he wants to have his tatau.

But to me, I thought to have mine straight after leaving school for some reasons.

Payment of this job is different. We don't pay it with money, we pay tattoo artists with fine mats, which were so precious to the Samoans, as well as, providing them with many food at the end.

By tattooing a man, artists use traditional instruments invented by their ancestors. I'll display some of those in my blog page very soon.

Hey Poeelama,
thats amazing, and with the little I know about the Tatau, you musn't have been able to sit down for a while?. What do the various lines and symbols mean?.

Hi Ross!

You are right mate - I couldn't sit down properly until the next couple of days, so it is comfortable to lie down most of the time. However, I have explained the meaning of lines and symbols above. Scroll down and you will see that.
