When a Samoan man is serious about getting a tatau, he must seek the blessing of the parents and immedate family because they must have a 100% support. This support is so crucial in order to comfort and motivate him, as well as strengthening him throughout the ordeal and challenge he is about to ensure. It is believed that without permission from parents and relatives, the implication might cause discomfort and pain.
Therefore, if every party agrees, then the tattoo artist would be contacted and the process is started.
